As promised, the new Jawa 300 motorcycles rolled onto the stage today, with three new models. The classically styled “Jawa,” the somewhat sportier, “Jawa Forty Two,” and the bobber-esque “Perak.” All three models debuted live on Youtube this morning, with the Mahindra Classic Legends Private Ltd division making their ambitions clear: flooding their native streets with these potent retro rides.
The 293cc single-cylinder engine is claimed to produce a capable 27 horsepower, and considering their main competition, the excruciatingly aged Royal Enfield Classic 350, puts out only 19 horsepower, the more modern design of the Jawa is going to look much more attractive to many buyers. All of the Jawa 300’s sport a single-disc front brake, drum on the back, and rather pedestrian chassis and running gear, but what would you expect for a motorcycle priced at USD $2,150. Before any of our fine readers get too excited about this new retro motorcycle, be aware that this first release is for the native market of India, and there are no plans at the moment to see these machines leave the continent. However, it would be fair to assume, that if the release goes well, the next step would be taking these motorcycles to the global market. Like most things, time will tell.
