Cut From Metal

Honoring Machines Designed By Hand And Cut From Metal

Yamaha DT1 Road Racer

I had the pleasure of watching this bike make it’s racing debut back in 1998 at the hands of the late Sammy “Shiempe” Yamazaki.  Sammy inserted a GYT-Kitted Yamaha DT1 engine into a Yamaha R5 chassis, with a few more exotic bits here and there (ie…check out those wheels!).  The simple, hand made aluminum tank was meant to have a cover over it, giving it a TD2 look.  After the first practice session, Sammy pulled the cover off and left it as you see it here for the next twenty years.  The bike was shockingly simple, and shockingly fast.  Even Dave Roper enjoyed rides on this  enduro based 250GP bike.  Anybody know where this bike is today?
